Thoughts on Spirit and The Human Condition

So originally I wanted to start a blog based on hauntings, seeing as I’ve been able to see the dead since I was a little girl, I think it only makes sense, (hey even if you don’t believe in the supernatural it does make for a good story,) I am not here to convince you that ghosts are real, in fact, I might argue that my job is to make you look critically at the ghost stories being told and to get you to ask questions about the stories. Many of the ghost stories have roots in truth, others were used as object lessons for children, more still were used to unnerve living souls huddled around campfires late at night. Regardless these are fun tales, often with kernels of truth woven into them.

This is where the tricky part comes in, because, even though I want to entertain you with the idea of the unknown, I would be doing both the dead and the living a disservice if I didn’t thoroughly research the stories I’m telling you. Some stories have a lot of documentation connected to them, some have very little, in the case of very little documentation I will be critically analyzing the story myself.

Even as a medium, I am first and foremost a historian and a researcher. This means I prefer to look at both sides of an argument, and come up with my own conclusion. This however will be your job, I am not here to tell you if these stories are real or not, I am here to tell you what I found out and what I was able find out. What your imagination does or doesn’t do with the information provided is up to you.

Each blog entry will use the same formula, I will first tell you the official ghost story we are focusing on, the most widely acknowledged “true” story, but then after I tell you the official story, I will do my own digging into historical documentation and see what I come up with. From there, it will be up to you to decide what you believe. Now I don’t dispute ghosts, nor do i believe every ghost story is a fake, in fact many are true in my opinion, however, over time these ghost stories get sensationalized and as a result become more of a fantastical tale to spook rather then the real story of someone who lived and died.

On that note, as we all know humans can be despicable creatures, twisting the narrative to fit their truth, there are some stories which the documentation proves that the story cannot in fact be true, but, I caution you that documentation can be missing, mis interpreted, stolen, lost and sometimes outright fabricated, (I can think of a couple cases of the last one.) So even if all the documentation doesn’t line up don’t dismiss tales of ghosts as fanciful tales shared around a campfire. If you follow the trail, the truth is never as simple as it seems.

So if you enjoy ghost stories grounded in reality rather then sensationalism, then sit back, relax, grab a cozy drink and enjoy the ride.
